A brand new Green Channel has been added to the MSN website, Microsoft announced today.

The channel, located at green.msn.com, offers users a range of environmental news content from providers such as MSNBC, The Daily Green, Conservation International, Environmental Defense, Grist.org, TreeHugger.com and StopGlobalWarming.org.

Other content on the channel includes multimedia and interactive features, as well as articles from MSN channels such as MSN Lifestyle, MSN Money, MSN Autos and MSN Travel.

Users are able to calculate their carbon footprints, find out how environmentally-friendly they are, assess their awareness of green issues and sign an online petition to cut carbon emissions through a variety of tools and quizzes on the Green Channel.

In addition, a range of photos are to be displayed to show the effects of climate change around the world, while both amateur and professional video content will also offer further takes on green issues.

“MSN Green addresses a growing demand for green news and information, as measured by traffic and visitor click-throughs on the network’s other channels,” Microsoft commented.

Last month, Microsoft announced the launch of a new version of MSN Video, which allows users to find specific content more easily and integrates Soapbox user-generated videos. A new time-based advertising model, which displays advertising that is based on the amount of time spent watching videos rather than on the number of clips viewed, was also unveiled.
